Relic Hunters Zero: Remix is a 2D twin-stick shooter with roguelike elements, that follows the adventure of the spaceheart crew in collecting the ancient relics against the evil Ducans, played solo or in multiplayer co-op.
Right from the get go I could tell that this game will get me hooked, the bright colored visuals and the charming cartoon characters and the silly story, altogether create the perfect blend to grab my attention and curiosity. After all, what other adventure greets the player with a goal list of collectible relics that include: The midnight beer, the infinity battery, the dev potion (which is a cup of coffee), and the crystal bacon !
The main mode is the adventure / story mode of course, the player gets to choose one of the two starter characters, with five more unlockable characters for a total of seven playable relic hunters, each has their unique stats, weapons, and abilities. The player then proceeds to a short tutorial, then the stage selection hub, featuring four different stages, each consisting of three levels, for a total of twelve levels of increasing difficulty. But beware, you only got one life, and if you die, its game over, so keep an eye on your health and shield at all times !
The atmosphere of the game is where it shines; the cartoon characters, the colorful levels, the silly yet witty humor, combined with a superb soundtrack, and the many weapons and powerups are a recipe for success, and keeping the gameplay engaging and enjoyable !
Aside from the adventure mode, there are multiple other modes such as endless mode that spawns endless waves of enemies, storm mode which bares similarities with endless mode but focuses more on unlockable chests and collectibles alongside combat, and of course multiplayer modes either co-op or online rankings Daily mode.
Relic Hunters Zero: Remix is an excellent game that shines where other twin-stick shooters fail, and is perfect for short play sessions on a busy day or in longer, more intense sessions, a game I can recommend to all players, and receives a score of 8/10 from me.
