Ultra Foodmess

User Rating: 6

Ultra Foodmess is a fun couch co-op party game experience, that is surprisingly better in execution than in depth.

Up to 4 friends can play with options to pick the character of their choosing from a cute selection of fruit and vegetable characters. The number of games to declare the overall winner (up to 5) and an option for single players to pick up to 3 computer opponents, and then it’s on to the games themselves..

There’s certainly no criticism on the amount of diverse objectives in each game. Of course, the main strategy is staying alive the longest and remain the last man (sorry..flan!) standing! Can you survive the rotating laser tomato sauce bottle? Mash other opponents with a swinging ball and chain or burn them by eating nearby chilli peppers? Dodge massive sausages or acid puddles or just push opponents into large fork cutlery? Maybe you just need non violent activities like grabbing a kings crown and holding on to it or painting more screen than your opponents whilst the clock counts down to 0 ..

Overall, the main mini games are a joy to play, once you get past the really awful screen tune. As a single player experience, there’s incentives like unlocking new characters and achievements and yet,it’s overall and typically a rather lonely experience unless you have friends around. Here,it excels with some games getting rather tricky on the controls side and that really ramps up the enjoyment. Seeing a friend not knowing what to do and struggling from the off as part of the fun.

No performance issues and with everything running smoothly, makes this a great party title for visiting friends but there is little in depth and not much else to keep single players engaged for too long.

A decent “mash up” and a “winner at dinner”

Thanks to Silesia Games for the code.

Spent over 40 years gaming and played plenty of titles over plenty of platforms. Handheld consoles seemed a natural progression with their portability and ease of use, and with technology forever advancing. It’s now great to play titles I used to play all those years ago…on the go! Switch and Vita are my two main favourites and any title with dark themes ..RPGs, first person or rogue-like my main interest…

Have your say!
